Sometimes you want to just be spontaneous and not worry about packing all of your camp sleeping gear. Sleeping in a tent is great for mountain and lake trips; however, sleeping in your car is a completely different adventure! And who really wants to spend time setting up a tent if you arrive at your destination at night? Any takers? None? We thought so! From a few safety tips to comfort, we’ve got a few ideas to make camping in your car feel as homey as possible.
Rent A Parking Space
Looking to save a few extra dollars? Sometimes it’s just safer to eat the extra cost of renting a camping space for your car. Calling it a night on the side of a road or an empty parking lot is free but it also is just a tad bit dangerous.
Snuggle Up
Once you’ve doubled back because you missed that last exit and the next one wasn’t for another two miles, you can finally relax. Step out of your car and catch the sunset. Unpack your Selk’bag and pillows and snuggle up. You can fold the seats in your car to give yourself a flat surface to sleep on for the night. Either zip your Selk’bag completely or wear it half zipped and use a pillow for head support. I
Keep Energized
If your plan to is to run the battery of your car all night in an effort to charge your electronics, then you just might wake up the next morning having to hitch a ride. Bring a solar panel or a rechargeable battery along with you to keep all of your devices at 100%. Nothing sucks more than having to memorize the next 10 set of directions because your GPS just died on you, again!
Ventilate
Chances are that the windows in your car will begin to fog up. While this may be fun to write little messages in the window, it does not allow for air circulation. Reward yourself after a long drive by inviting fresh air into your vehicle. If you have company, then you probably don’t want to breathe in the same hot air as your family and friends for the next 8 hours.
Just try to let loose and have fun!
